Excess Weight and Methamphetamine

Excess weight has as effect on the brain similar to methamphetamine. Both are equally hard to get away from.

Dopamine carries signals in your brain associated with satisfaction and pleasure. Amphetamines and excess weight stimulate the dopamine system. Brain scans show that people in the habit of excess food or of amphetamine discover that, after they're hooked, they can't easily get along without them. Their brains and bodies won't work normally anymore.

Young people need to know that excessive weight gain is almost always a one way trip. True, some few people manage to lose significant weight and keep it off, but they track every calorie every day, and exercise vigorously at least an hour day, often more. And they never can let themselves forget about food. Weight gain and weight loss alter the physiology forever, as far as we can tell. (Read the exception in the link below.)
